Meet Ms. Proudie, Missouri State Representative

Representative Raychel Proudie was elected in 2018 to represent Missouri’s 73rd House District, which includes parts of North St. Louis County and the historic communities of Ferguson and Kinloch—the oldest Black incorporated municipality in the state.

Representative Proudie is recognized for her commanding floor speeches, incisive committee work, and expertise in Pre-K–12 education policy. Despite serving in the super-minority party, she has passed major legislation into law, including protections for survivors of domestic violence, funding for radioactive waste testing, Missouri’s formal condemnation of the Dred and Harriet Scott case, and the landmark Missouri CROWN Act. She previously made history as the only Democrat appointed both a Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman.

Representative Proudie currently serves on the powerful House Committee on Budget—where she is the sole member representing Missouri’s largest county—and has secured tens of millions of dollars for education, infrastructure, public safety, disability services, food security for seniors, and economic development. She is also the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Children and Families, the House Committee on Higher Education, and serves on the Joint Committees on Public Assistance and on Child Abuse and Neglect.

Representative Proudie is a certified classroom teacher in Missouri, Illinois, and Louisiana, and has served in rural and urban schools, both traditional public and charter. She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education at Grambling State University, her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling at Southern University and A&M College, and is a doctoral candidate (Ed.D.) at Grambling State University.

Her professional and civic memberships include: NAACP (Member-at-Large), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., 100 Black Women, Order of the Eastern Star, Missouri National Education Association, National Alliance of Black School Educators, National Association for Developmental Education, and the National Academic Advising Association.

Her leadership reflects both achievement and service: rooted in community, trusted in vision, and proven in results.
